WASHINGTON, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries on Tuesday premiered in U.S. capital Washington D.C. the documentary Touching the Tigers about a U.S. pilot's rescue in China during the World War II.

The premiere ceremony was held in the Chinese Embassy here, and was attended by visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yesui and Anna Chan Chennault, wife of the late U.S. Air Force General Claire Lee Chennault, who commanded the American Volunteer Group (AVG), which was founded in 1941 to help China fight the Japanese aggressors, popularly known as the Flying Tigers.

The documentary was co-produced by Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and China Friendship, Peace and Development Foundation. It tells the story of Glen Beneda, an American Flying Tigers pilot, and his 60-day fraternity and 60-year friendship with the Chinese people.

During World War II, Beneda, then at the age of 18, was sent to the China battlefield as part of the Flying Tigers. His fighter jet was shot down by the Japanese during one of his missions. But fortunately, he was rescued by Chinese farmers and soldiers. After nearly 60 days of hard journey, he was finally escorted to U.S. Air Base. This experience left Beneda with unforgettable attachment to the Chinese people, and it led to his final journey of gratitude to China, regardless of his poor health at the age of 86. He passed away shortly after the trip.

In her remarks at the ceremony, Liu said the touching story of Beneda is a symbol of China-U.S. cooperation. As countries with important influence on world peace, development, prosperity and stability, China and the United States should, like they did 60 years ago, rise above differences, join hands again, and work actively together to create a better future for the two countries' peoples, and for the mankind.

During the ceremony, Liu also presented Elinor Beneda, wife of Glen Beneda, an award of People's Friendship Ambassador, to thank her for her contribution to making the documentary.
